![]() News![]() Inter-faculty meeting ends in success at Estación Costera in Las Cruces
The College of Biological Sciences has reaffirmed its intention to open up ECIM to the university professors as a truly UC Campus, so it is actually considered part of a platform for training and research in their respective disciplines, at the meeting. In order to begin discussions aimed at encouraging the creation of a Centre for Inter-Disciplinary Research in the Estación Costera de Investigaciones Marinas (ECIM), authorities and academics from the Faculties of Engineering, History, Geography and Science Politics, Mathematics, Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences recently met in Las Cruces. The current Director of ECIM, Sergio Navarrete gave a presentation that included a historical review and a proposal for an academic development of the ECIM where interests and capabilities come together, these are currently scattered across various faculties within the UC. In addition, they discussed the feasibility of this University infrastructure to become a Coastal Marine Observatory of the South Pacific. "The idea is to create an inter-faculty center unique in this part of the ocean, and whose role would be to provide a platform for the development of training and postgraduate and advanced research in all areas of natural sciences, exact and social, that relate to the sea and coastline. All in a context of internationalization and service to the community, "said Juan Correa, dean of the College of Biological Sciences. As a result of this meeting, it was agreed to implement a seminar-workshop in which interested academics present thematic lines of research and to deepen the strategic areas to strengthen and diversify marine science at UC. It also reiterated the commitment of the College of Biological Sciences to open up ECIM to professors of the university as a true UC Campus so it is actually considered part of a platform for training and research in their respective disciplines.
