Scientific Cruise Humboldt 2009
On March 4th 2009, Spanish and Chilean scientists set sail on the ship Hespérides, off Ushuaia and bound along the coast of Chile to investigate the impact of global change on marine ecosystems. Investigators conducted research from Chile’s southern austral fiords and channels north up to Antofagasta. This is a project of the international laboratory for the study of global change, LINC-Global created by the Council of Scientific Investigations of Spain (CSIC) and the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC).
Research participants included top scientists from both institutions as well as students of the Marine Biology undergraduate career of PUC, who enjoyed a truly unique opportunity to work in one the best-equipped research vessels of the world. Onboard the RV Hespérides students and researchers had access to last generation equipment and sophisticated instruments, many of which are not available in Chilean laboratories. The research expedition successfully finished on March 16 in Antofagasta. Spanish and Chilean researchers and students are preparing scientific reports with the valuable information collected in the cruise.
