International School in Marine Biology, 17-27 January 2011
The Daniel Jouvance – UPMC – PUC International School in Marine Biology is a
summer school for postgraduate students of Latin America, aiming to summarize the latest
advances in Marine Biology research.
This school results from long-term collaboration between France and Chile
in Marine Biological Research. A team of French and Chilean lecturers, all
consolidated researchers in their respective areas, will cover the different
topics using algae as a model organisms.
Summary Program
- Regional context: oceanography and biogeography of the S.E. Pacific
marine diversity, its management and mariculture
- Macroalgae: Diversity and evolution, Complexity of life cycles
- Genetic diversity: its nature and uses for spatial, demographic and
historical inferences
- Basic concepts and approaches in genomics and post-genomics
- Full genomes
- Physiological stresses and stress responses
- Molecular bases of innate immunity in benthic algae
- Compounds of interest: structure, uses, biosynthetic pathways and trends
for innovation
- Microalgal biodiversity, what do we learn from genome sequences?
- Microalgae as cell factories, including for the production of biofuels:
dream or reality?
