New installations consolidate the Estacion Costera de Investigaciones Marinas as a marine research leader

On November 3th,  Estación Costera de Investigaciones Marinas (ECIM),  located in Las Cruces, has opened it’s new installations. The specially designed spaces to work with seawater will allow teaching an investigation, training Marine Biologists of excellence.

Cutting-edge labs, one of the kind in South America, auditoriums, study rooms  and computer labs, form part of the new infrastructure that would allow train high-level professionals and develop high-tech marine sciences investigations in Chile, as well as to establish important collaborations inside the University and with another chilean and international institutions.

The new facilities turn ECIM into one of Latin America’s most cutting-edge investigation centers. Wet laboratories, unique in Chile, have aeration and circulating sea water -drawn from the coastal area into the laboratories-, which aloud to maintain aquariums with diverse marine species.
