For groups of elementary, middle, and high school students, ECIM has offered guided tours of the marine station, lectures, and opportunities to participate in hands-on marine ecology experiments and activities. ECIM’s most extensive youth education program was supported by EXPLORA, a national youth education initiative funded by CONICYT that encourages students to think critically about science and technology. Faculty and graduate students at ECIM designed demonstration experiments and interactive activities to engage pre-university students in marine ecology, 
the scientific method, and the importance of valuing local marine ecosystems. While learning broadly about the ocean and local marine organisms, students also had an opportunity to learn about marine protected areas and sustainable marine resource use directly from the institution that pioneered the science and policy in these fields in Chile.
